How we write, check, and correct our language guides.
Our goal is simple: help you say the right thing, the way a native speaker actually would. That means our guides are written for real use, not for a grammar exam.
Natural usage over literal translation
We prioritize what a native speaker would genuinely say in context over a word-for-word rendering. Where a phrase changes with formality, region, or gender, we try to note it. Where a literal translation would sound odd or rude, we say so.
Review
- Phrases and pronunciations are checked for natural, everyday usage before publishing.
- Romanization is provided to help you approximate the sound; it is a guide, not a substitute for hearing a native speaker.
- App and product comparisons reflect our honest assessment. We make SPAIKING, and we disclose that on every relevant page.
Disclosure. I Ain't Fluent is made by the team behind the SPAIKING app. When we compare apps or recommend a way to practice, assume we have that interest, and judge the advice on its merits. The guides are free and useful whether or not you ever install anything.
Corrections
If a phrase reads unnaturally, a note is wrong, or a romanization misleads, email hello@iaintfluent.com. We review reports and update the page.
